Participation

Rotarians represent an assembly of professional and business people from the Gettysburg area. This variety of occupations is ensured by club rules and regulations in order to avoid dominance by any one profession. A Rotarian must attend a minimum of 60% of all meetings. A "missed" meeting can be made up at another club within two weeks of that missed meeting.
Every Rotarian is assigned to a committee and is expected to contribute his/her talents to its stated goals.

Who may join Rotary?

Any man or woman engaged as a proprietor, partner, corporate officer, manager or person holding a position of discretionary authority of any worthy, recognized business, profession, charitable organization, business association, religious organization, or similar activity is eligible for membership. Prospective members should be of good character and sound business and professional reputation.

One active member and one additional active per business classification is permitted except in the fields of religion or news media. After a prescribed length of time, a member becomes a senior active, opening up that classification to a new member.

A member (proposer) can recommend a person, having the appropriate qualifications for membership, by first determining interest on the part of the prospective member, completing a proposer card and giving it to the secretary of the club. The secretary, in turn, offers the application to the board of directors for approval. If the individual is approved by the board, the name is submitted to the classification and membership committee. The individual is then presented, in writing, to the entire membership for approval.

The club members have ten days in which to respond. If there are no objections to membership, the club officers meet with the prospective member in an orientation session to inform that individual about the ramifications of being a member. A formal induction into the club will follow.
