WHAT IS ROTARY?
Rotary is a world-wide organization whose purpose is development of fellowship and understanding among the business and professional men and women in the community, the promotion of community-betterment endeavors, high standards in business and professional practices, and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace.
The Rotary Foundation greatly influences worldwide understanding through international fellowship and charitable contributions.

All Rotary clubs have one basic ideal -
"
SERVICE ABOVE SELF"
which imbues thoughtfulness and helpfulness to others.

Embracing the above statement of purpose, the Rotary Club of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is made up of business and professional men and women in the greater Gettysburg area. They support the Rotary Foundation, the official name of the world-wide organization, the largest philanthropic association in the world.

CLUB HISTORY
On October 1, 1920, the Gettysburg Rotary Club went from a dream to reality when its charter members were installed by District Governor John Rudisill of York. M.C. Jones was recognized as Gettysburg's first President. The installation of the club took place at the old Eagle Hotel located on Chambersburg and North Washington Streets. Twenty members made up the original constituency.
